Founder story
I have always believed the sweetest gift we can give someone is our time.
I'm Yasmeen Tadia. I've spent my career creating experiences designed to bring people together. Ichigo Ichie came from a much more personal question: am I being as intentional about the people in my own life as I am about the experiences I create for everyone else?

It started with a birthday.
For my birthday, I didn't want another party.
I spend my life creating celebrations. I know how to fill a room, build an experience, and make something feel special. But for this birthday, what I wanted wasn't a room full of people.
I wanted time with them.
I sent the people who meant the most to me a link to my calendar with a simple invitation:
“You mean the world to me. Pick a time on my birthday calendar and let's create a new memory together.”
No presents. No pressure to gather everyone in the same room.
Just time.
Life had other plans. I got sick, and I wasn't able to experience the birthday the way I had imagined it.
But I never forgot the idea.
Presence over presents.
Years later, I realized it wasn't really a birthday idea at all.
It was a life idea.
I've been thinking about our circles for years.
Long before Ichigo Ichie became an app, I had been thinking about something I call our Circles of Influence.
The people we repeatedly give our time to shape us.
Some people make us laugh. Some challenge us. Some deepen our faith. Some expand the way we think. Some make us braver, calmer, more creative, more curious, or simply remind us who we are.
And yet, we often give our time based on convenience rather than intention.
- Who happens to text.
- Who lives nearby.
- Who is easiest to make plans with.
- Who we've always spent time with.
I started asking myself a different question:
Who do I want influencing the person I'm becoming?
And then another:
Does the way I spend my time reflect that?
Ichigo Ichie is, in many ways, my answer.
Then AI changed the question.
We're entering a world designed to give us more time.
AI can write the email. Order the groceries. Summarize the meeting. Plan the route. Do work that used to take us hours.
At the same time, we can work from home, have dinner delivered, shop without entering a store, watch endless entertainment alone, and maintain entire relationships through a screen.
Convenience is extraordinary.
But I've started wondering whether it can also quietly make our lives smaller.
If technology gives us time back, where will that time go?
I don't want all of mine going back into another screen.
I want some of it going to people.
That became the reason to build Ichigo Ichie.
“AI can save us time. Ichigo Ichie helps us spend it with the people who matter.”
The people you make time for become part of who you become.
Ichigo Ichie isn't here to tell you who your friends should be.
It doesn't score your relationships. It doesn't tell you that you haven't seen someone enough. It doesn't create streaks or rank the people in your life.
You decide who matters.
You decide who brings joy into your life. Who gives you perspective. Who challenges you. Who you want to learn from. Who you want to support. Who you miss. Who you want beside you in your next chapter.
Ichigo Ichie simply helps turn that intention into time together.
“You choose the who, how and why. We help with the when.”
Why Ichigo Ichie?
In Japanese, ichigo ichie (一期一会) is the philosophy of treasuring each encounter because this exact moment, with these exact people, will never happen again.
When I discovered those words, they captured exactly what I had been trying to build.
- Not more meetings.
- Not a fuller calendar.
- A fuller life.
- The coffee with a friend.
- The walk with your mom.
- The dinner you almost didn't schedule.
- The person you haven't seen because both of you keep saying, "soon."
- The ordinary Tuesday that doesn't feel important until years later, when you'd give anything to have it back.
That's the point.
Life happens in person.
I built technology I hope you eventually close.
Most technology measures success by how long you stay.
Ichigo Ichie is different.
I don't want you scrolling.
There is no feed to keep up with. No likes to collect. No relationship score to improve.
I want you to open Ichigo Ichie, find someone you care about, make the plan...
and then put your phone down.
Because the best possible outcome for this product happens somewhere outside of it.
- At a table.
- On a walk.
- Over chai.
- Running errands.
- Sitting beside someone while they work.
- Celebrating a birthday.
- Visiting a friend while you're in their city.
- Doing absolutely nothing important together.
That's where life happens.
Who do you want influencing your next chapter?
Think of one person.
Not the person you're supposed to call.
The person you genuinely want more life with.
